The Impact of Coronavirus Disease

At the end of 2019, the coronavirus broke out, which has greatly changed the world. As this disease spread out, it influences people worldwide, and reached the serious level of “Pandemic” defined by WHO. It is said to be the biggest challenge we’ve faced since world war Ⅱ. Since the pandemic wasn’t under control, many countries adopt the method of “Lockdown” to avoid further infection. The outbreak of Covid-19 has greatly impacted our ways of living, including interpersonal relationships, world economy, and the relationships between human and nature.

One of the several impacts of the coronavirus disease is that to reduce the spread of coronavirus disease, people are limited to contact, and getting used to the new daily routines, such as wearing masks, checking temperatures and washing hands frequently. In some countries, the implement of lockdown also limits people’s living space and gatherings. Thus, people spend more time with themselves.

World economy has suffered great recession since the disease broke out, which led to higher unemployment rates and struck small businesses. The gap between the poor and the rich becomes bigger. While rich people can afford better treatment, poor people lack sufficient medical cure and thus led to a higher death rate in the impoverished areas. As world tourism is currently in a halt, small businesses also face severe challenges. Once crowded tourist attractions are now being empty, there’s little income to local shops.

Since the source of the infection has pointed to the wildlife, the pandemic made us reflect on the way we treat nature. At present, since human developments have disturbed animal habitats, we are at risk being infected by the disease carried by them. Thus, we should remain proper distance with wild lives to prevent from infections.

Before the year end of 2019, it’s impossible to imagine there would be such a disease that impacted human society profoundly. It changed the distance between each other, struck the business around the world and reminded us to treat nature more fairly. This disease may be under control someday, but it might not come to an end or similar cases might rise in the future. Thus, we should come up with long-term solutions to face the future challenges.
