Reflective Essay 2

    In these two semesters, I learned a lot about writing. Before taking these courses, I have little knowledge of how to write. There wasn’t any class that taught me how to write in senior high school, but the university entrance exam did test our writing skills.      In these courses, I learned the structures of different genres of essays, such as process essay, comparison essay, cause-effect essay, argument essay, and problem-solution essay. I learned how to write an attractive hook, a strong thesis statement, and clear topic and concluding sentences. Also, I learn how to paraphrase and cite sources. I think these principles are the foundation of a good English essay. 

    It was a surprise to me when teacher told us to create a Wix website and update our writings. Actually, it’s meaningful for me to keep my writing on a webpage, and it’s interesting to create one’s own style.

Through the course, I think I learned more than writing skills especially when I was writing the argument essay and the problem-solution essay. I looked for many resources and tried to form my own perspectives.

    By peer-assessment, I can learn a lot from others. Peer-assessment also helped me to find errors in the essay, and my classmates often gave me practical advises which enabled me to better my essay.

    I think it’s a good way to demonstrate our essays to others. By creating a Wix e-portfolio, our assignments seem less like homework. We have to make sure one’s own essay is readable and interesting enough so that others might be willing to read.  Also, we have to create attractive layout of the Wix pages to attract our readers. I think creating a web, or become familiar with Wix website benefits me a lot because I can use Wix to create a new site depending on my need in the future. I think it’s an useful and practical ability.

Challenges

       At first, I found I was more familiar with Word, so I prefer typing on the Word first, than pasted the article here. Gradually, I get used to Wix. 

      I think the most challenging one is to generate my own thoughts. It's easy to get information online, but we have to come up with the solutions to the problems by ourselves. It's hard for me to form my own opinion, but I learned a lot.

      I am not sure if I will keep writing essay and upload it. But it's a cute website, I will definitely keep it. This website it's like an album, reminding me of my learning process.
